The Dean Forest Railway's Lydney Junction station is less than 10 minutes walk away from the mainline Lydney station.
Catch a train to Lydney from the South Wales direction, exit Lydney station and walk north up the road toward our signal box. You will see the entrance to the Dean Forest Railway just before on your right.
If you are coming from the Gloucester direction, you will need to cross the mainline before heading north up the road toward our signal box. You will see the entrance to the Dean Forest Railway just before on your right.

Through buses operate approximately every hour on weekdays from Gloucester and Chepstow by Stagecoach Red & White service 73 and also some Sunday buses from Gloucester.
There are also local buses from Coleford, Cinderford and Monmouth. Many buses pass the DFR station. Ask the driver for the nearest stop to DFR Lydney Town Station or use Lydney Bus Station, 8 minutes walk from DFR Lydney Town Station.

By Road from the South West
To get here by road from the south-west on the M5 (Somerset/Devon), take the M5 north up to junction 15 (the M4 interchange) and turn left to head west over the old Severn Bridge on the M48 across the river following signs to Chepstow and the Forest of Dean. The bridge toll is payable on the English side of the river just after junction 1.
Exit the M48 at junction 2 (the first after the bridge) and turn into Chepstow. Drive down through Chepstow on the A48 crossing the River Wye into England. Follow signs to Lydney and Gloucester. About 15 minutes drive later you should be at Lydney.
Head into Lydney town, and when you have crossed our level crossing, past a short row of shops, take the first left turn onto the B4234 to Whitecroft and Parkend. You will find us about 1.5 miles along this wooded road, in a clearing on your left. The Dean Forest Railway has a large, free car park here.

By Road from South Wales
To get here by road from South Wales on the M4, take the M4 east up to junction 23 just before the new Severn Bridge, where you should turn off onto the M48 to Chepstow. Take the Chepstow exit (junction 2) off the M48 just before the old Severn Bridge (don't miss it or you will be crossing the River Severn.)
Drive down through Chepstow on the A48 crossing the River Wye into England. Follow signs to Lydney and Gloucester. About 15 minutes drive later you should be at Lydney.

By Road from the North
To get here by road from the north on the M5 (Birmingham), take the M5 south to junction 11, the Cheltenham / Gloucester exit.
Turn right, off the interchange, to be on the A40 dual carriageway to Gloucester. At the first roundabout, take the third major exit for Ross-on-Wye and the Forest of Dean (at about the two o'clock position). This takes you on the dual carriageway that skirts the north of Gloucester. At the next roundabout go straight over (second exit). This takes you over the River Severn to the next roundabout, which again you go straight over (second exit).
Follow the A40 signs to Ross-on-Wye and Chepstow up to the next roundabout, where you should take the first exit onto the A48, following signs for Lydney and Chepstow. About 25 minutes later you should be at the right turn for Lydney, where you will find a 'Steam Railway' tourism sign.
Head into Lydney town down the hill, over two pedestrian crossings and just after the second crossing, take the right turn onto the B4234 to Whitecroft and Parkend.
