HELLO and WELCOME

Remember those relaxing days of yore ...

... when travel on trains was full of fun and excitement. Cosy compartment coaches, a chance meeting or a fond farewell, milk churns and mail bags, pigeons and porters, flowers and fresh air at the country station, birds singing as excitement mounts with the sound of a distant whistle, then the sight, sound and smell of the steam engine arriving at the station! A cup of railway tea and a sandwich, a visit to the local pub across the road from the station or a short walk into the countryside….Welcome to the Dean Forest Railway, the Friendly Forest Line!

Whether it is to bring back memories or show children the magic of trains from a bygone era, come and let us help re-create that wonderful of atmosphere of a country railway. And don’t forget to have a chat with the driver, guard or any of our volunteers, for you can be sure of a cheery reply! We love running the railway and want you to enjoy it as much as we do!

Please click here for the calendar of our operating dates and then browse the web site, perhaps starting by clicking on “Your visit” (top of page) to explore our railway – “The Friendly Forest Line” in the magical and medieval Royal Forest of Dean! We look forward to seeing you soon!

A visitor to our Day Out with Thomas wrote...

I am a local resident and on Friday 30th June I took my 3 1/2 year old daughter on the Thomas day. I just wanted to say what a fantastic time we had & that I was really impressed with the organisation and I thought it was real value for money in a world where so often days out cost a fortune for little reward.

Her favourite part was chasing the steam train
on Daisy. She loved being able to go on the carousel as much as she wanted and I thought the drawing/DVD room was an excellent idea as somewhere to do a quiet activity for a bit of time out on a busy day.  Well done all of you
and thankyou.  Mrs C.
